About Matthew

Matthew Freeman is a dedicated attorney at Liakos Law APC, specializing in sexual abuse and personal injury litigation. With a proven track record of securing over $300 million in settlements and verdicts for his clients, he is deeply committed to achieving justice for those who have suffered harm.

Matthew’s practice is focused on representing victims of sexual abuse, including survivors of abuse by institutions such as the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic Church, and various school districts, medical facilities, and religious organizations across California. He brings a personal and empathetic approach to each case, driven by a passion to ensure his clients receive the justice they deserve, particularly for those whose cases have not been fully addressed by the criminal justice system.

In 2023, Matthew was part of the trial team that won a historic $135 million dollar verdict in the Blair v. Moreno Valley Unified School District case. For his work on this case, Matthew received the F. Scott Baldwin Award from the American Association of Justice, which is awarded yearly to the “most outstanding young trial lawyer” in the country. Matthew was further selected as a finalist for the 2024 Consumer Attorneys of California Consumer Attorney of the Year Award.

Before focusing on sexual abuse cases, Matthew represented victims of the 2017 Route 91 Harvest Music Festival mass shooting in Las Vegas. His efforts helped secure an $800 million settlement—the first of its kind in U.S. history for a mass shooting. This landmark result led to his recognition as a finalist for the 2021 Consumer Attorneys of California’s Consumer Attorney of the Year award.

Matthew’s academic foundation includes a degree in Political Science from the University of Tennessee and a J.D. from California Western School of Law. Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Matthew is actively involved in legal communities, currently serving as Co-Chair of the Education Committee for the American Association for Justice New Lawyers Division and Chair-Elect for the Consumer Attorneys of California New Lawyers Division. Matthew is also an active member in the Consumer Attorneys of California Law School Outreach Committee. He is also a member of Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, Consumer Attorneys of California, the American Association for Justice, and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego.
